ABOUT EVE

Eve Zanni is an original jazz voice, warm and expressive with sensual musicality...Traversing the primal depths of jazz standards and original compositions in a variety of unique arrangements from a classic jazz style to Brazilian, Afro- Cuban and Middle Eastern rhythms, sung with passion and romantic soul.

Born into a musical family in California spanning several generations; Eve says….“My dad was in Vaudeville; playing harmonica with Borra Menevitch’s Harmonica Rascals, my brother is a bass player who has played with Canned Heat, Kaleidoscope, Amman Folk Ensemble, Brave Old World, to name a few, and music was always at the center of our lives .”

Performing frequently with her groups The Sweethots and Jazzmundo, Eve has also sung with jazz luminaries such as Benny Powell of The Count Basie Band, Norman Simmons and The Cab Calloway Band Orchestra led by Chris Brooks, in venues from small village clubs, museums, churches, art galleries and boats to venues such as Birdland, The Rainbow Room, St. Regis Hotel, Lincoln Center, Aaron Davis Hall.

Teaching and performing jazz, vocal and instrumental music and song-writing in New York City schools, Zanni also writes and performs music for dance and film and tours with her own ensembles in Europe, the Caribbean and U.S.

Author Will Friedwald Jazz Singing: America’s Great Voices from Bessie Smith to Bebop and Beyond refers to Eve Zanni’s swing vocal trio The Sweethots as “The best of its kind…”

Zanni’s love of saxophone legend Lester Young Prez inspired her to craft lyrics to a number of his compositions.  Musician/critic Fred Zabin describes Zanni's rendition and original lyric to Lester Young's 1949 saxophone solo on George Gerswhin's Embraceable You..." Her original words and honey rich voice add layers of eroticism to the charm of Lester's improvisation...it will be a blessing for whoever introduces this talent to the world..."

Gypsy Wave Dance from Jazz singer/composer Eve Zanni is a hypnotic wordless vocal line set to a wild mix of Brazilian and Middle Eastern rhythms...as the intensity builds to a mysterious frenzy, you can almost see the crashing waves and you are invited to the trance....from Zanni's debut CD  Songs for Modern Mermaids, available on CDBaby.

Gypsy Wave Dance was chosen for inclusion on TENNJAZZ Volume One on Imaginary Records; a compilation of artists participating in the Tennessee International Jazz Festival.
